Where and when were you born? Albemarle, N.C. March 23, 1972 What is your profession? High School Teacher What kind of activities/sports did you do before you started lifting weights? Cheerleading, and anything outdoors I'm just a good ol' country girl How and when did you get involved into lifting weights? I have a two year old son and I began weight training to lose the pregnancy weight Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body? It just sort of happened. I didn't have any real knowledge of bodybuilding when I joined the gym. What was your first competition and how did you place? Metrolina Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Competition April 26,2003, 1st Place Women's Open Heavyweight And which contest has been the biggest success for you yet? They've all been equally rewarding. It's a joy to train and competing is a bonus. But I guess, I really enjoyed winning the overall at the Gold's Classic, May 2003. The posedown was a battle. They really ran us through it and the other competitors were tough. Could you please add a history of all contests that you have entered so far? 1st Place Women's Open Heavyweight Metrolina Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure Competition April 2003 1st Place Women's Open Heavyweight and Overall Champion Gold's Classic May 2003 1st Place Women's Open Heavyweight N.C. State Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure Championships May 2004 9th Place Jr. Nationals June 2004 2005 North Carolina State Heavyweight and Overall winner 2005 Jr USA light-heavyweight winner Please describe a typical day in the life of Tangela Horne Morgan. 5:30 am wake up and prepare for work 7:00-3:00 get son of to school, work 3:15-4:15 train 5:00-8:30 play with son, eat dinner, take care of household duties 9:00-11:00 prepare meals for next day, grade papers, take care of household duties 11:00 sleep and do it all over again Please tell me something about your daily training routine. Monday quads, calves Tuesday chest and triceps Wednesday shoulders and traps Thursday back, biceps, forearms Friday hamstrings, calves What are the main differences when you train for a competition and in off-season? I do a hell of alot more cardio when preparing for a competition. I hate cardio. Of course my diet changes, but my workout and training doesn't change very much. If you don't mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)? I don't take my measurements and I don't think about how much I'm lifting because I don't want to start worrying if I can do it or not. I don't have a training partner, so I have to psyche myself up. Which bodypart is your best in your opinion? I'm very impressed with my back, but I get lots of compliments on my shoulders and my legs. My glutes aren't too bad either, if that counts. After one show a guy asked me if I did anything special for my glutes, or was I just blessed with a ghetto bootie!!! I cracked up. What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don't like so much? I like to train back the best...T bar rows are my favorite. I hate tricep kickbacks...I guess it shows. Judging in Women's Bodybuilding has always been criticised in one or the other way. Please tell me your honest thoughts about today's judging in Women's Bodybuilding. It's hard to tell what they're looking for from one contest to the next. I've been told my femininity is a plus, but I've seen less conditioned bigger women take the overall. So you're never sure if they want size or quality. I just enjoy training and seeing the improvements I've made and that's what I try to focus on. My biggest concern is the lack of coverage and monetary compensation for femal bodybuilders. Two minutes after USA's you could see pics of the men all over the internet. Who featured the female competitiors? Please tell me about what else you are doing when you don't work out (profession, hobbies, etc.) I love to read, travel (can't do much on a teacher's salary and a bodybuilder's budget), and eat, eat, eat, especially sushi. I like to visit wineries also. What are your future plans for 2004/2005? Train hard, make some gains, try Jr. USA's or Jr. Nationals again and make my mark on the National level. Please note: Tangela does not do sessions or wrestling of any kind. Please don't ask!! |
