What kind of activities/sports did you do before you started lifting weights?
One year in middle school – track (220 yd dash & shot put)
How and when did you get involved into lifting weights?
By the time when I graduated high school I was already overweight (189 lbs in college by my sophomore year I was up to almost 200 lbs..I joined ROTC in college and started to lift weights with the football team. I also did aerobics.
Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body?
Actually I have to give that credit to Terry Hairston. I had always Appreciated the sport and was an avid spectator, but me compete never..with my body….but he saw something else ..he had a vision.
Which competition has been your first one and how did you place?
My first contest was the 1996 Jan Tana (Amateur) – 1st Middleweight
And which contest has been the biggest success for you yet?
Actually I believe all were successes..but I think the most memorable and challenging one was last year’s NOC…..with all of the things that happened from Lost luggage, next day FED-Ex plane did not take off to arrive in NEW YORK; CJ’s box with extra suits for me did not arrive to her; And just as I had finished at the hairdresser (1 hour before weigh ins)..it started to pour down raining and me with no umbrella…..>) : All this and I placed 1st Middleweight and qualified for the Olympia.

Please describe a typical day in the life of Kim Harris.
5:00 am up to do cardio; then eat
8:30 am – 6:00 pm – mortgage office
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm – cardio (Lunchtime)
7:00 pm – cardio / train and/or train client
9:00 pm tan
9:30- 11:00pm- home to cook / prepare food for next day
read/ check emails from work and from my website
11:30 - Prepare for bed
Please tell me something about your daily training routine. And how often do you train in a week?
Cardio: pre- contest everyday (twice a day)/ off season 4 days a week….*this year for figure I have been doing cardio 3 times a day) Weights usually – 2 days on/ 1 off
What are the main differences when you train for a competition and in off-season?
Really the only change is the increase in the amount of cardio and of course, nutrition / diet

Which bodypart is your best in your opinion?
I don’t know if there is a best :>). I always raise the bar for steady improvement
What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much?
I love all back exercises..especially the seated row; And then of course legs..I love to train.

What are your future plans for 2004?
I will be competing as an IFBB figure competitor for the 2004 year
