Where and when were you born? 12/22/77 in Greensboro, NC What is your profession? Waitress/personal trainer/wannabe model and WWE Diva Were you involved in sports or fitness prior to bodybuilding and how did you get started with weight training? My mom started me out in figure skates at the age of 3…her father had played hockey and she skated as well…I was able to compete until I was 9 and was forced to give it all up when the rink in our town closed down…from there I went on to play softball and tennis and ultimately took up dance…I took some ballet but mostly modern, hip-hop, and jazz…I kept dancing in college and then started to lift…then three years ago I got involved in online forums and lifting boards and saw the stories of several women that made lifestyle changes and took up competing and I got inspired…I later met my trainer and he got me ready for my first show which took place a year ago this month! Can you give me your competition history? 2005 Mountaineer, 1st place, LW women’s bodybuilding (earned national qualification) 2006 Elite Muscle Classic Open MW, 1st 2007 NPC Junior Nationals, 3rd LW 2007 NPC Team Universe, 4th LW 2007 NPC USA's, 6th LW Please tell me something about your training routine (ie: how many days per week / training split /cardio, etc.) right now I am lifting 4 days out of the week and hitting cardio 5 days out of the week with three of those days being double cardio sessions…I typically split my training into: chest/biceps/abs/calves Legs back delts/biceps/abs/calves What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much? I’ve never been a big fan of shoulder workouts! Hahahaha, not sure why but they’ve never been my favorite...anything demonstrating power tends to be my favorite move, so for example, leg presses and rack deads are always fun J Which body part is your best in your opinion? Probably my calves and my waistline, both of which I earned from my parents. If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)? Measurements: 36B, 27, 38 (right now…that last one goes down with prep)…115 comp weight, 140 lbs off season…5’ 2 ¼”…best lift to date was this off season when I did 900lbs on the leg press for 6 reps…I was excited! What do you enjoy about training for competition....what do you enjoy about the 'off season'? off season: EATING!!!...comp time: just watching myself change each day and watching new lines and new veins pop up… Please describe a typical day in the life of Sharon Garrett. A typical day would be me waking up around noon and having a shake and some caffeine…I then cook and get my things ready for work and then wait tables from about 5pm-11pm, then leave work around midnight, and then it’s gym time! 2am rolls around and I’m back home again to shower and eat and relax by watching tv (Nick at Nite usually) with the cat, answering emails and the like, and then nodding off around 5am. What do you enjoy most about the bodybuilding/fitness lifestyle? Just the challenge of it all…it truly puts those that do it, be it as a pro or just the local level, in a club of their own…because if it was easy then everyone would be doing it… Tell me something interesting about yourself, something people may be surprised to hear. I currently have 7 tattoos…with plans for one in honor of my grandfather who passed away a year ago and another for my hopeful alma mater of UNC J…when I was born I was actually two months early and barely weighed in at 4lbs! What are your competition goals or personal future goals? I would like to continue competing to see how far I can take it…my ultimate dream goal is to be a wrestler for Vince McMahon and the WWE…it’s been my dream since I was 3 years old. Sharon does not do sessions or wrestling of any kind. Please don't ask!! |
